There are instances when you want to change your sleep schedule because of different reasons. It may be because you want to do a lot of things before you go to work but you don’t have the time of your life because you can’t sleep early and, as a result, you wake up late. Some people may experience the need to adjust to new time zones such as when going on business trips to different countries. There are also cases where you need to work in different shifts and you need to change your sleep schedule immediately. Here are some helpful tips on how to reset your internal clock and help you cope with jet lag or adjust to working shifts.

If you want to eat a big breakfast, feed your pets, and have your daily jog around the neighborhood all before 8 in the morning, you should be waking up earlier. The problem is you have a hard time hitting the sack at the appropriate time so you wake up late the next morning. One way to change your sleep schedule is to go to bed five minutes earlier every night and wake up five minutes earlier every day. This is not an overnight remedy but you will soon get the hang of it and you can wake up earlier and do all the things you want to do in the morning.

If you’re changing time zones, a helpful tip is to stop eating during the 12-16 hour period before you want to be awake. This will reset your internal clock the next time you start eating again. Your body will adjust and consider the time you break your fasting as your new morning. It is useful to know when the breakfast is served on the country you will be visiting and then don’t eat for 12-16 hours before their breakfast time. This will help you adjust to the new time zone without experiencing jet lag and other associated problems.

If you need to adjust to a new work shift, keep rooms bright if you want to stay awake. If switching to a night shift, lessen exposure to the sun before sleeping. It helps your body adjust to the drastic changes in your schedule.
