Self HelpAre We Unable to Find What We Love Doing Or Are We Just Afraid to Find Out the Answers?
The people who will be long remembered in history are those people who knew what they loved doing, what they wanted out of life, and made sure that they become successful at it. This is what I learned upon finding out about the death of Apple co-founder and ex-CEO Steve Jobs. Jobs, who pioneered the first personal computer, the computer mouse, the first computer-animated film, and the iPhone, the iPad, and the iPod among others, is a tech genius who many compare to Thomas Edison during his invention of the electric light bulb. To many people, his ways may be disagreeable but there was no denying that the man was a genius who made the most out of his 56 years of existence. Steve Jobs, in a speech in Stanford University graduation last 2005, told the new graduates (and the rest of the world) the importance of finding out what you love doing. According to him, life is too short to bother living a life dictated by dogma. In his words, "You've got to find what you love...The only way to do great work is to love what you do." This is something that we often hear, but it appears that very few people are successful at it. Many end up remaining to do jobs that they didn't like doing because they've already been accustomed to the lifestyles that they led. More than the inability to find the things that we love to do, people are afraid to find out the answers because that could probably mean changes that would change their outlook in life. And that is just sad. Because we only have one life to live. Now this is something that we should think about. Should we do things that we don't like in exchange of "security" or should we risk it and attempt to do great things--things that we would love no matter what the end results are?
