Isn’t it nice to have good friends? Won’t it be nicer if you can be that good friend to others? Here are some tips to create your own lasting relationships. If you constantly give advice to your friend, the relationship may become unbalanced. You’ll be the Friend Who Knows It All, and she will be the One with All the Problems. Sooner or later you’ll both get tired of those roles. So why not allow her to bounce ideas off you. Ask questions such as “What are you planning to do about this situation?” Or give a supportive comment: “It seems difficult. How do you feel about it?” Remember to give your opinion only if she asks for it. Otherwise, you’re just giving a lecture and a good friend wouldn’t want to do that. Show another side of you by blending friends from various areas of your life. You can throw a party with your college friends and your colleagues from work. Soon you’ll find yourself opening up more, and your friends will discover new things about you. Friends also want you to celebrate with them when good things occur. But if you’re a bit jealous of your friend’s success, it can be harder than it sounds. Swallow that emotion because she doesn’t just need a shoulder to cry on during a crisis. She also wants someone to applaud her victories. You should be sincerely happy for your friend’s success. Remember that joy shared is joy doubled. You don’t have to try very hard to show your friends you appreciate them. Small gestures are usually the most heartfelt ones. Try dropping by your friend’s office with a latte if she’s had a tough day or sending her a compassionate text message. It will mean a lot to her. It’s sad how some people tend to forget the importance of quality time with friends. When you were younger, it’s easy because you get to see your friends in school so you get to spend your whole day with them. But once you start working, you and your friends seem to have a tight schedule and you only get to see each other a few times a year. You should make more effort to see each other. Make it a priority to spend time with your friends and reminisce on the good times you shared. This will help you feel happier and make you appreciate each other more. You can talk about...
